'Across the Universe'
The music of the Beatles informs this ambitious, 1960s-set musical drama from director Julie Taymor, whose stage successes include "The Lion King." Evan Rachel Wood plays the new love of a British emigrant (Jim Sturgess), but their relationship faces challenges from the turbulent times.

The characters often break into the Fab Four's songs. Salma Hayek, Eddie Izzard and U2's Bono also appear. DVD extras: five "making-of" documentaries; audio commentary by Taymor and director Elliot Goldenthal; deleted scene; extended musical performances; photo gallery. *** (PG-13: AS, N, P, V)
