"Enchanted" on DVD will sell itself thanks to Amy Adams' completely charming portrayal of Gisele -- a nice addition to the Disney princess line -- and the fact that the movie actually lives up to the claim that it's a new family classic. A handful of colorful, yet restrained bonus features just sweeten the admittedly saccharine plot.

Popular with critics and audiences alike, the film harkens back to the Disney films of old with its combination of animation and live action, big musical numbers (featuring three Oscar-nominated songs) and numerous visual homages to the studio's princess films. A fairy tale princess Gisele (Adams) is fooled by the evil Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) and unexpectedly thrust into the real world of New York City where she awaits her prince (James Marsden) with the help of jaded widower Robert (Patrick Dempsey).

DVD Bonus Features:

The Good: Three behind-the-scenes featurettes are blessedly short, sweet and fun, with "Happy Working Song" as the highlight of the bunch since it focuses on the real, trained pigeons and rats combined with the CG-animated critters that were choreographed for the clean-up scene. "That's How You Know" features numerous Broadway dancers, including one veteran who appeared in "Mary Poppins." The bloopers are innocuous at best, but a couple easter eggs will be fun to find, including Carrie Underwood's "Ever Ever After" video and a push to buy "Enchanted" on Blu-Ray since it allows viewers to reference each of the homages hidden in the film.

The Bad: Despite brief intros by director Kevin Lima, the deleted scenes don't add to the film's entertainment value and give a strong argument for their being cut in the first place. The featurette "Pip's Predicament: A Pop-Up Adventure" is interesting in theory: the chipmunk's exploits trying to free Prince Edward from slumber so he can retrieve Gisele from New York. And while the pop-up book conceit seemed fun initially, the static quality of the action -- heavily reliant on narration -- and the illogical, cobbled-together storyline just serve to lose the viewers.
