Arguably the year's best-received science-fiction film, this extremely effective thriller – produced by Peter Jackson ("The Lord of the Rings") – sequesters aliens who have landed on Earth in a section of South Africa. One of the operatives (Sharlto Copley) assigned to handle them suddenly finds himself drastically affected by them, giving him all too firsthand a view of the oppressed visitors' experience.

Director and co-writer Neill Blomkamp's realistic style heightens the horror. DVD extras: "making-of" documentary; audio commentary by Blomkamp; deleted scenes. ***
