Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman also star

Oscar-nominee Amy Adams is in talks for a supporting role in "Charlie Wilson's War," a fact-based drama set to star Tom Hanks.

The Universal project was written by Aaron Sorkin and will be directed by Mike Nichols. It focuses on Texas congressman Charlie Wilson (Hanks), a liberal lawmaker who worked the system to help assist the Afghan rebels during their conflict with the Soviets (you may recall the story from "Rambo 3") in the 1980s.

According to both industry trade papers, Adams will play Wilson's assistant.

Already announced for the film are Oscar winners Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julia Roberts.

Adams and Hanks were both in Steven Spielberg's "Catch Me If You Can," but it would take a more astute reporter to recall if they actually shared the screen at any point.

Since earning wild praise for her supporting role in "Junebug," Adams has been highly in demand, signing on for leads in Disney's "Enchanted" and in the big screen version of the cartoon favorite "Underdog." She'll next be seen in "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."
