Amy Adams will be hoping for the luck of the Irish for her next film.

The Oscar nominee is in negotiations to star in Spyglass' romantic comedy "Leap Year," according to The Hollywood Reporter .

The story follows the adventures of an uptight woman (Adams) who journeys to Dublin to propose marriage to her boyfriend on Leap Day, Feb. 29. She's bent on that particular date because Irish traditions says men must accept if a woman proposes on that day. Naturally, with such a specific deadline, the woman's trip gets sidetracked by the weather and other wacky incidents.

Actually, a bit of research shows that Irish tradition used to insist that women could propose during the whole Leap Year, but naturally that was just far too frightening a prospect for men, so it was reduced to the one day. In addition, men could actually refuse, but had to pay a penalty in the form of a silk dress, several pairs of gloves or other such fripperies.

Harry Elfont and Deb Kaplan ("Made of Honor") wrote the screenplay, which will be shot beginning mid-February. A director has yet to be named.

Adams, 34, received an Oscar nomination for "Junebug" and won hearts with her role as the incarnation of a Disney princess in "Enchanted." She'll next star opposite Meryl Streep in two films, "Doubt" and "Julie and Julia."
