Could direct 'Life of Pi' adaptation for Fox 2000

Ang Lee may soon know the numbers of "Pi."

Lee is in negotations to direct the film adaptation of "Life of Pi" for Fox 2000, according to Variety. Yann Martel's 2004 novel tells the story of Pi Patel, a young boy trapped on a large lifeboat with a man-eating tiger.

Lee, 54, most recently directed the 2007 film "Lust, Caution."
