'A-Team' Will Explode Into Theaters in 2009
John Singleton is directing the June 12, 2009 release
According to Variety, 20th Century Fox has settled on a June 12, 2009 premiere date for the updated action-adventure.
Scripted by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas ("Wanted"), "The A-Team" is expected to somewhat update the formula of the classic NBC series, which ran from 1983 through 1987.
As the show's opening narration explained, the original "A-Team" focused on a crack commando unit that was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. Stop us if you've heard this part, but those men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade. Where did they go from there? Why into the Los Angeles Underground. And where are they now? Well, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune.
All together now: If you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.
The original series starred George Peppard, Dwight Schultz, Dirk Benedict and Mr. T.
It's expected that the version will update the show's main characters from Vietnam vets to veterans of one of the Iraq ways.
Ice Cube has long been rumored as the leading candidate to play B.A. Baracus, but no casting has been formalized.
The only film currently scheduled for that June 12, 2009 release date is the Eddie Murphy comedy "Nowhereland."
