Actress will have to pay a fine for shoplifting

Bai Ling claims that making off with two celebrity magazines and a pack of batteries without paying was an "innocent mistake," but she's willing to deal with the consequences.

The actress was charged with petty theft on Monday, March 3, stemming from a February incident in which she shoplifted a few items from a Los Angeles International Airport gift shop.

After being charged, Ling, 37, posted the following message on her personal blog:

"I just got the good news and I am relieved that the prosecutor has decided not to file misdemeanor charges against me and to treat this matter as an infraction. What happened was an innocent mistake on my part and I am confident that the truth will be told since I never had any intention of taking items without paying for them.

"I appreciate the support of the public and especially my friends and my fans. Thank you!"

On Feb. 13, Ling had visited one of the airport's terminal gift shops and walked off with two Star magazines and a pack of batteries before she was placed under citizen's arrest by a shop employee.

The actress faces a $250 fine, which could be contested Wednesday, March 5.

Ling is best known for her various film roles in both Chinese and American films that include "The Crow," "Anna and the King," "Shaolin Soccer," "Three ... Extremes," "Lords of Dogtown" and "Soutland Tales." On the small screen, her outrageous personality was displayed on the celebrity talent show "But Can They Sing?" and last season, she appeared on ABC's "Lost" in flashbacks.
