Stone's 'Instinct' Earns Razzie Love

'Little Man' also earns seven nominations

The unnecessary Sharon Stone sequel "Basic Instinct 2" and the equally unnecessary Wayans Brothers comedy "Little Man" led the nomination field for the ignominious Razzie Awards.

Both "Basic Instinct 2" and "Little Man" earned seven nominations apiece and will face off in the worst picture race against M. Night Shyamalan's "Lady in the Water," Neil Labute's "The Wicker Man" and Uwe Boll's "Bloodrayne."

"Bloodrayne" had six nominations, "Wicker Man" five and "Lady in the Water" had only four. "Lady in the Water" auteur M. Night Shyamalan deserves particular credit for being nominated for worst director, worst writer and worst supporting actor. Bravo.

The 27th Annual Razzie Awards, given to the year's worst cinematic achievements, will be handed out (if anybody attends) at a Saturday, Feb. 24 ceremony, the day before the more reputable (but perhaps not more respectable) Academy Awards.

Stone is a Razzie favorite, winning the worst actress award in 1994 for both "Intersection" and "The Specialist" and sharing a worst couple prize with her "Specialist" co-star Sylvester Stallone. This year, she's up for worst actress, as well as for worst screen couple. "Basic Instinct 2" also got nominations for supporting actor David Thewlis, director Michael Caton-Jones and for worst screenplay and worst sequel.

The "Little Man" nominations were paced by both Marlon and Shawn Wayans, up for worst actor against Rob Schneider ("The Benchwarmers"), Tim Allen ("The Santa Clause 3," "Zoom" and "The Shaggy Dog"), Nicolas Cage ("The Wicker Man") and Larry the Cable Guy ("Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector"). Brother Keenan Ivory Wayans was nominated for worst director and all three brothers shared a worst screenplay nomination.

The Razzies added a new category this year, recognizing the worst excuse for family entertainment. The nominees were "Deck the Halls," "Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties," "RV," "The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause" and "The Shaggy Dog."
