Elizabeth Berkley and Briana Evigan are joining the cast of the variably titled sequel to the cult favorite "Donnie Darko."

Directed by Chris Fisher, the sequel is based around Daveigh Chase's character from the original movie and will either be called "Samantha D" or "S. Darko" based, presumably, on which name tests better.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story focuses on Chase's Samantha Darko seven years after the family-shattering events of the first movie. When Samantha and her best friend (Evigan) begin having visions, they flee town and wackiness ensues.

The trade paper says that Berkley will play a speed junkie turned religious zealot. Also appearing in the film are Ed Westwick ("Gossip Girl") and Justin Chatwin ("Invisible").

Production on the "Donnie Darko" sequel has already begun in Utah.

Evigan, who appears in the NBC's summer anthology "Fear Itself," is best known from "Step Up 2 the Streets."

Berkley is currently hosting Bravo's "Step It Up and Dance." That doesn't mean that we'll ever stop thinking of her as the star of "Saved by the Bell" and "Showgirls."
