Updated take on Jonathan Swift classic will shoot in March

Jack Black will star in a new version of "Gulliver's Travels."

Set at 20th Century Fox, this latest take on the Jonathan Swift classic will be directed by Rob Letterman from a script adapted by Joe Stillman, with a rewrite by Nicholas Stoller ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall").

"Gulliver's Travels" -- better known by its shorter, catchier title than the original mouthful "Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World, in Four Parts. By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of several Ships" -- was first published in 1726. Among its multiple filmed incarnations are an Emmy-winning telefilm starring Ted Danson, a partially animated film with Richard Harris and a trippy 1960 movie starring Kerwin Matthews.

The industry trade papers imply that this new adaptation will be mighty loose, focusing on a travel writer named Lemuel Gulliver (Black), who gets lost in the Bermuda Triangle and ends up on the island of Lilliput, best known for its diminutive inhabitants.

The movie is expected to shoot in locations unknown in March 2009.

Black, who starred in the summer hits "Kung Fu Panda" and "Tropic Thunder" will next appear in June's Judd Apatow-produced "The Year One."
