Chris Carter's 'Fencewalker' has been mysteriously shooting since March

With the release of "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" right around the corner, franchise creator Chris Carter has been hard at work on a mysterious new film titled "Fencewalker."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Fencewalker" has already begun shooting in Los Angeles. Carter is writing and directing and he also raised the financing himself, working without a secured distributor.

While the trade paper compares the veil of secrecy around "Fencewalker" to the obscurity that shrouded the J.J. Abrams-produced "Cloverfield," Carter's project appears not to have any sort of supernatural edge. In fact, it's just described as a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story. Internet message boards have been rumbling about the shoot since March, but Carter's people still wouldn't confirm the film to the trade.

There are no additional details about "Fencewalker" other than that the cast includes Natalie Dormer ("The Tudors"), Katie Cassidy ("Supernatural"), Xzibit ("The X-Files: I Want to Believe"), Derek Magyar ("Enterprise") and somebody the trade calls Meckah Brooks (we suspect it's actually Mehcad Brooks, formerly of "Desperate Housewives").

"The X-Files: I Want to Believe," Carter's feature directing debut opens on July 25.
