Catherine Hardwicke eyes adaptation of James Patterson novels

"Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke may soon be working with more superhuman teens.

Hardwicke is close to signing on as director of "Maximum Ride," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie would adopt mystery writer James Patterson's young adult series, which follows Max Ride and his fellow human-bird hybrids as they escape their laboratory home and the evil half-human, half-wolf Erasers. After dealing with sparkly vampires, Hardwicke should find birdmen easy to handle.

Hardwicke left "New Moon," the "Twilight" sequel, due to Summit Entertainment's quick turnaround plan.
