Studio is talking to the monster hit's director, writer and producer about another

Viewers who waited impatiently through the closing credits of "Cloverfield" may get to see a payoff to that end-of-film Easter egg.

Paramount is in talks with Matt Reeves to direct a sequel to his January monster movie smash "Cloverfield."

According to Variety, the studio also wants producer J.J. Abrams and writer Drew Goddard back on board, preferably quickly.

The timeless tale of a giant creature marauding through Manhattan shattered January box office records with its $46 million opening, fueled by months of online hype. Even though "Cloverfield" plummeted in its second weekend, the $25 million-budgeted thriller has taken in more than $64 million to date.

If deals with Reeves, Abrams and Goddard can progress quickly and the writers strike ever ends, "Cloverfield 2" could be the director's next film.

If not, Reeves has already set up "The Invisible Woman" at GreeneStreet Films.

Based on Reeves' original script, "The Invisible Woman" focuses on a former beauty queen who finds herself drawn into a life of crime.
