Kevin Covais hits the big screen. Will viewers hit back?

Kevin Covais, American Idol, seemed unlikely, but how unlikely is Kevin Covais, Movie Star?

Nicknamed Chicken Little (and worse) during his surprisingly long "American Idol" run last season, Kevin Covais will make his movie debut in the Lionsgate youth comedy "College."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Covais will be joined in the Deb Hagen-directed film by Drake Bell, Andrew Caldwell, Haley Bennett, Gary Owens and Ryan Pinkston.

Dan Callahan and Adam Ellison wrote the script, which focuses on a trio of high school students who enjoy a wild weekend during a perspective freshman weekend at a nearby college.

Element Films is financing the project.

An inexperienced 16-year-old when he made his run into the "Idol" Top 12 last season, Covais has never acted before.

Bell is one of the stars of Nickelodeon's "Drake and Josh" and was featured in the remake of "Yours, Mine and Ours."

Caldwell has recurred on the Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana," while Bennett is a co-star in the feature "Music and Lyrics."
