Director Rob Cohen will also return

Vin Diesel's career is becoming a bit of a greatest hits album.

After returning to the "Fast and the Furious" franchise for next summer's "Fast & Furious," Diesel is now looking to breathe life back into the "XXX" franchise.

According to Variety, producer Joe Roth is pitching Columbia Pictures on the tentatively titled "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," an entirely self-explanatory action vehicle returning both Diesel and "XXX" director Rob Cohen.

The trade says that both Diesel and Cohen have agreed to return, but the actual deals won't be signed until Roth can secure a studio home.

The 2002 original "XXX," featuring Diesel as extreme athlete turned spy Xander Cage, made more than $275 million worldwide. When Diesel exited "XXX: State of the Union," Ice Cube took the lead and the film made only $71 million worldwide.

It's expected that the June 12, 2009 release of "Fast & Furious" will help restore some of the star wattage Diesel has lost thanks to the box office disappointments "Find Me Guilty" and the recent "Babylon A.D." The actor's last hit was 2005's "The Pacifier."
