Morgan Freeman is already set to star in 'The Human Factor'
According to Variety, Warner Bros. is in talks to co-finance "The Human Factor," based on John Carlin's book "The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World."
In the elaborate scenario charted by the trade paper, Clint Eastwood is contemplating making "The Human Factor" a possible directing vehicle (reuniting him with "Million Dollar Baby" co-star Freeman) and Matt Damon is in preliminary talks (emphasis on "preliminary") to play a lead role.
Anthony Peckham ("Don't Say a Word") has written the script, which focuses on South Africa's hosting of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, an event that marked a key turning point in the nation's recovery from the dark stain of apartheid. Damon would play the national rugby captain.
One catch might be time, since Damon recently dropped out of Darren Aronofsky's "The Fighter" due to scheduling conflicts. The "Good Will Hunting" Oscar winner and "Bourne" franchise star was recently linked to Gus Van Sant's long-gestating Harvey Milk project playing San Francisco city supervisor (and killer) Daniel White. He's also expected to star for Paul Greengrass in "Imperial Life in the Emerald City."
After directing "Flags of our Fathers" and "Letter from Iwo Jima" last year, Eastwood will next helm Angelina Jolie in "The Changeling" for Universal.
