America Ferrera will lead the 'An Invisible Sign of My Own' cast for the director of 'Mad Hot Ballroom'

America Ferrera has signed on to star in "An Invisible Sign of My Own," based on the novel by Aimee Bender.

"An Invisible Sign of My Own" will be Marilyn Agrelo's first project since directing the acclaimed documentary "Mad Hot Ballroom" and will be based on an adaptation by Michael Ellis and Pamela Falk.

Ferrera will play Mona, a young woman who retreated into the world of mathematics after her father became ill. Now teaching math to second graders, Mona meets a man who may be just as anti-social as she is. Emotional awakenings ensue.

The Emmy-winning actress will slot "An Invisible Sign of My Own" into the very slim window in "Ugly Betty" production between the end of shooting in May and a June production restart in anticipation of a possible actors strike, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ferrera will next appear in the summer sequel "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2."
