'Final Destination 4' Goes 3-D
'Snakes on a Plane' director David R. Ellis will helm
Get ready to face death in 3-D.According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Final Destination 2" director David R. Ellis and co-writer Eric Bress have signed on to make a fourth "Final Destination" movie, this one shooting in 3-D for New Line.
Since the first three movies in the franchise revolved around groups of attractive young people cheating Death and then being butchered in increasingly diabolical ways, we're going to go out on a limb and guess that "Final Destination 4" will be about groups of attractive young people cheating Death and then being butchered in increasingly diabolical ways.
The film is expected to be a stand-alone, rather than relating back to the plot of "Final Destination 3," which starred Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ryan Merriman and Kris Lemche, among others.
All shot on shoe-string budgets with relatively unknown stars, the first three "FD" movies have been cash cows for the studio. The first film made $53 million when it premiered in 2000, followed by the $46.5 million gross for the 2003 sequel and then $54 million for the 2006 third installment.
Since directing "Final Destination 2," Ellis has gone on to helm the thriller "Cellular" as well as a little cultural phenomenon called "Snakes on a Plane." His latest film, "Asylum," is in post.
