Project is a remake of a 2004 Danish film

Relativity Media has focused on a pair of hot-shot young actors to topline the company's remake of "Brothers."

According to Variety, Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal are in negotiations to star in Jim Sheridan's adaptation of the 2004 Susanne Bier drama.

Bier's acclaimed Danish-language film starred Connie Nielsen, Ulrich Thomsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas and focused on a young man who cares for his brother's wife and children when the brother goes off to war.

The trade paper says that Gyllenhaal would play the solider-brother, with Maguire as the stay-at-home black sheep brother.

David Benioff ("Troy") is writing the script.

Gyllenhaal, an Oscar nominee for "Brokeback Mountain," will next be seen in this fall's "Rendition." His last film appearance was in this spring's "Zodiac."

Maguire, recently linked in the trade papers to a live action "Robotech" feature, has starred in the "Spider-Man" films and in "The Good German."
