New Regency will finance and Hudson will star and produce

The long-gestating Kate Hudson vehicle "Bride Wars" has gotten a financing boost and may be headed toward production.

New Regency is expected to finance the pic with Firm Films producing. In addition to starring Hudson would take a producing credit along with Julie Yorn of Firm Films and Alan Riche of Sunrise Entertainment.

According to Variety, Greg DePaul sold his original "Bride Wars" pitch -- two best friends schedule their weddings for the same day and neither will budge -- to Miramax back in 2004, but the project went into turnaround after the Brothers Weinstein left the company. The latest draft of the script will be written by June Raphael and Casey Wilson.

Hudson, most recently seen in "You, Me and Dupree" and "The Skeleton Key," is set to begin production on "Fool's Gold" with Matthew McConaughey.
