Jonah Hill would develop the script, produce and potentially star

Is Jonah Hill his generation's Johnny Depp?

According to Variety, the "Superbad" star is in negotiations to develop an updated version of "21 Jump Street" for Columbia Pictures.

The project will be produced by Neal Moritz along with Stephen J. Cannell, who co-created and executive produced the TV version of the property, which aired on FOX from 1987-91.

Johnny Depp was one of several Tiger Beat friendly stars whose careers were launched by the original "21 Jump Street," which focused on a group of cops who were young enough to work undercover at high schools and colleges.

The trade paper says that Hill would develop the screenplay, executive produce and potentially star in the modern-day "21 Jump Street."

A veteran of the Judd Apatow Fun Factory, Hill's credits include "Knocked Up" and the recent "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." Hill is attached to do voice-over work on the DreamWorks Animation feature "How to Train Your Dragon." He's also attached to the Apatow-produced "Get Him to the Greek," set up at Universal.
