Richard Kelly will direct 'The Box'

Tony winner and "Masters of the Universe" star Frank Langella will take a key role in Richard Kelly's "The Box."

The project is based on the Richard Matheson short story "Button, Button," which focuses on an unhappily married couple (Cameron Diaz and somebody else) who are visited by a mysterious stranger (Langella). The stranger gives them a mysterious box with a button. If they push the button, they'll get great wealth, albeit with a catch -- when they push the button, somebody they don't know will die.

Matheson's story was previously adapted as an installment of the 1980s revival of the "Twilight Zone" franchise.

Production on Kelly's "Southland Tales" follow-up will begin in mid-November.

For Langella, "The Box" will follow Ron Howard's "Frost/Nixon," a big screen version of the Broadway play that earned the actor his third Tony.

On the big screen, Langella was most recently seen in "Superman Returns" and "Good Night, and Good Luck." To some strange people, though, he'll always be best known as "Skeletor" in the live-action "Masters of the Universe" feature.
