Chris Evans will also join Reeves and Whitaker

Hugh Laurie has booked his first major film role since beginning his Golden Globe-winning run on "House."

Laurie has booked a key supporting role in the James Ellroy-scripted, David Ayer-directed thriller "Night Watch," set up at Fox Searchlight.

In addition to Laurie, the long-gestating film (formerly titled "The Night Watchman") has also added Chris Evans ("Fantastic Four") to its cast, according to Variety.

Keanu Reeves plays a long-time LAPD cop who has a life epiphany and begins to question some of the tactics he's used over the years. He goes head-to-head with his longtime mentor (Forest Whitaker) over the blowback from the death of a fellow officer.

Laurie and Evans will play internal affairs offices in "Night Watch," which begins production later this month after years of delays and the flirtations of a number of A-list directors including David Fincher, Spike Lee and Oliver Stone.

In addition to his seasons as TV's most medically gifted misanthrope on "House" (and lengthy career in British comedy), Laurie's feature credits include the "Stuart Little" films, "Flight of the Phoenix" and "101 Dalmatians."
