Tobey Maguire would produce comic book adaptation

Tobey Maguire is set to produce an adaptation of the comic book "Afterburn."

According to the industry trades Maguire and his creatively titled Maguire Entertainment shingle will produce along with Neil Moritz's Original Films for Relativity Media.

"Afterburn" is published by Red 5 Comics and only premiered back in January, from creators Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood, with artist Wayne Nichols.

The plot focuses on a postapocalyptic Earth, where the only people in the Eastern Hemisphere to survive a solar flare are mutants and freaks. The main characters are treasure hunters acquiring pre-apocalyptic antiquities like the Crown Jewels and the Mona Lisa.

"Afterburn" has neither a writer nor director attached.

Last seen in "Spider-Man 3" and "The Good German," Maguire has a cameo in the upcoming "Tropic Thunder," as well as a starring role in "Brothers." His production shingle is developing an adaptation of the anime favorite "Robotech."
