A creative team is set for a remake of John Milius' 1984 teen Cold War thriller, with Carl Ellsworth ("Red Eye") writing a script from a story by Jeremy Passmore.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Bradley will make his directing debut on the film after years as second unit director and/or stunt coordinator on films including "The Bourne Ultimatum" and the upcoming "Quantum of Solace."

The original "Red Dawn" was the first movie released with a PG-13 rating and told the story of a plucky group of Midwestern teens who become a militia fighting off a World War III-style invasion from Soviet and Cuban forces.

The cast of young stars included Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Charlie Sheen and Lea Thompson.

"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," Ellsworth tells the Reporter. "As 'Red Dawn' scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"

Other credits for Ellsworth include "Disturbia" and the upcoming remake of "Last House on the Left."
