Dominic Monaghan will star in thriller

Since his Charlie character isn't likely to appear very much on "Lost" anymore, Dominic Monaghan has picked up the lead in "Pet," a psychological thriller.

Set up at MGM, "Pet" focuses on an animal shelter worker who becomes obsessed with his former high school crush. When he takes her captive in the cellar beneath his workplace, he discovers some disturbing things about her, or so The Hollywood Reporter suggests.

Edna McCallion will direct the production, which should begin shooting sometime in the next few months.

In addition to his three-plus seasons as ill-fated rocker Charlie Pace on "Lost" (he appeared in some unknowable form in last week's premiere), Monaghan is certainly best known for his co-starring work in the "Lord of the Rings" movies, in which he played Merry. He'll next be seen in the zombie film "I Sell the Dead," opposite Ron Perlman.
