"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" was unable to topple "The Dark Knight" at the domestic box office, but the "Mummy" flick ruled overseas.

For the weekend closing Sunday, Aug. 3, "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" took in $59.5 million internationally, playing on 3,559 screens. The third film in the "Mummy" franchise opened in first place in 26 markets including Korea, Russia, Mexico and Spain.

Last weekend's foreign champ, "The Dark Knight," took a week off from its worldwide expansion and still made $37 million, playing on 6,468 screens in 51 markets. With its foreign total standing at $202.5 million, "The Dark Knight" will open in Japan and South Korea next weekend and in France, Russia and Spain the following frame, according to media reports.

Finishing a distant third in the foreign marketplace was Pixar's "Wall-E," which made $15.7 million to bring its overseas total to $95 million.

" Mamma Mia!" made $14.6 million to bring its overseas total to $140.7 million, while fifth place foreign went to " Hancock," which has now taken in $319.1 million international after a $11.9 million weekend.
