Nicole Richie's Brief Jail Stint
No time for Mein Kampf, only a new mugshot
On Thursday, Aug. 23, the "Simple Life" star served barely enough time behind bars for a contrived romantic comedy when she was released from jail because of overcrowding, reports the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The brief stint was service for a four-day sentence for a DUI stemming from a December 2006 arrest in which she drove her car the wrong way on a freeway. After pleading guilty in July, she received her jail sentence and was ordered to served a three-year probation, enroll in an alcohol education program and pay a $2,048 fine.
Richie, 25, was reportedly "cooperative" when checking herself into the Lynwood, Calif. jail around 3:15 p.m. At five months pregnant -- with boyfriend Joel Madden's baby -- she only weighed 105 lbs., standing at 5'1".
Although some may cry foul, the sheriff's statement explains that letting Richie out so early is just regular procedure. Under the current sheriff's policy, non-violent female offenders sentenced to 30 days or less are booked and released within 12 hours.
Earlier that day, Richie and Madden had checked in her two pooches -- Honey Child and Foxxy Cleopatra -- into the California Animal Hospital in anticipation of her absence.
