Filmmakers began following presidential candidate in early 2006

Edward Norton and his Class 5 Films shingle are working on a documentary about Sen. Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.

According to Variety, Class 5 is hoping to line up distribution for the untitled documentary for a 2009 release. Will they be able to get distribution?

Our hunch? Yes, they can.

The trade says that directors Amy Rice and Alicia Sams began shooting Obama before he declared his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination. Obama is currently in a neck-and-neck race with Sen. Hillary Clinton for the opportunity to face Republican Sen. John McCain in the Nov. general election, meaning that the documentary's end has yet-to-be-written.

The filmmaking team has had access to Obama since the Illinois senator's 2006 visit to Africa and they plan to follow the candidate until his campaign reaches some point of finality.

Norton is reportedly a donor to the Obama campaign, as is Endeavor bigwig Ari Emanuel, who will be handling any potential distribution deals for the untitled documentary.

The Oscar nominated actor will next be seen in "The Incredible Hulk."
