On "Supernatural," Jared Padalecki battles myriad forces of darkness, but he's never ever faced an adversary like Jason Vorhees.

Now he will. Whee.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Padalecki is in final negotiations to topline New Line and Paramount's remake of "Friday the 13th," which will be produced by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes shingle and directed by "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" re-director Marcus Nispel.

Less a remake, really, than a reboot, the new "Friday the 13th" will focus on a series a murders at Crystal Lake and the hockey mask-wearing fiend behind it all.

The trade says that Padalecki will play a young man investigating the carnage.

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift scripted the project, set to open on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009.

In addition to his TV work on "Supernatural" and "Gilmore Girls," Padalecki is no stranger to the realities that if you're a young actor in Hollywood, you're contractually obligated to cut your teeth on horror remakes. He co-starred with Paris Hilton in the new "House of Wax" and also starred in the original "Cry Wolf." This winter, he'll be seen in a very different sort of horror movie, Lionsgate's "Home for the Holidays," which focuses on the life and work of painter Thomas Kinkade.
