Oscar nominee Ellen Page may be set to star in the latest adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre."

This new incarnation of the endlessly filmed novel has been written by Moira Buffini and would be produced by Alison Owen ("The Other Boleyn Girl") of Ruby Films, according to Variety.

The story focuses on the new governess (Page, presumably) serving the mysterious Mr. Rochester. As the mousy Jane begins falling for her enigmatic boss, she starts discovering some mighty disturbing secrets from his past. Steamy repressed passions, flashbacks and brooding ensue.

BBC Films will produce the new adaptation, which could shoot as early as this fall. The company's small screen arm just adapted the Bronte novel as a TV miniseries starring Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens, while the most recent feature incarnation was Franco Zeffirelli's 1996 effort starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and William Hurt.

The 21-year-old Page, nominated for every award under the sun for "Juno," was most recently seen in "Smart People." She's lined up upcoming roles in Drew Barrymore's roller derby film "Whip It!" and the drama "Peacock."
