Simon Pegg, David Krumholtz and Nastassja Kinski are also circling Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglorious Bastards'

Roughly a month after first being linked to Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards," Brad Pitt has finally signed on for the World War II ensemble, leading a quartet of casting additions.

Variety describes Pitt's character, Lt. Aldo Raine, as "a Tennessee hillbilly who assembles eight Jewish-American soldiers to take on the Nazis."

David Krumholtz is in talks to play one of the soldiers under Raine's watch, though The Hollywood Reporter says that Krumholtz may have scheduling problems. "Hostel" director Eli Roth and "The Office" co-star B.J. Novak were previously cast as soldiers.

In addition, Simon Pegg is in discussions to play a British officer, while Nastassja Kinski has had meetings with Tarantino about playing a German actress in the Universal-Weinstein co-production, which will begin production in Europe on Oct. 13. Those involved continue to maintain that "Inglorious Bastards" will premiere at next year's Cannes Film Festival, which suggests an unusually accelerated working pace for the normally deliberate Tarantino, who has been promising "Inglorious Bastards" to fans for over a decade.

Pitt will next be seen in "Burn After Reading" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." He's set to transition into Darren Aronofsky's "The Fighter" after completing work on "Inglorious Bastards."

Pegg's credits include "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz," plus the upcoming "Star Trek," while Krumholtz is one of the stars of CBS' "Numb3rs."

Kinski was most recently seen in "Inland Empire" and the telefilm "La Femme Musketeer." She's best known for "Tess," "Cat People" and "Paris, Texas."
