'Resident Evil' Sequel Returns Several Residents
Milla Jovovich, her abs and an assortment of co-stars return for 'Extinction'
The film will mark a melding of visions between "Highlander" auteur Russell Mulcahy and "Resident Evil" mastermind Paul W.S. Anderson. Mulcahy will direct from a script by Anderson, a collaboration powerful enough, perhaps, to finally rid our futuristic world of zombies once and for all. Knock on wood.
In addition to the returns of Jovovich's Alice, Guillory's Jill Valentine (a particular fan favorite, it seems) and Fehr's Carlos, "Extinction" will bring co-stars Mike Epps and Iain Glen back into the fold.
According to Variety, the film will begin production in Mexico in May with Constantin Film and Impact Pictures sharing financing duties. Previous reports have suggested that the plot will involve a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies and that it will take place in the Nevada desert, but does it really matter?
Released in 2002, the first "Resident Evil" film took in $40 million domestic and more than $100 million worldwide. The 2004 sequel topped those figures with more than $50 million domestic and nearly $130 million worldwide.
