'Goodfellas' duo ready for another mob tale

After a long string of movies with current muse Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese may be reuniting with an old favorite collaborator.

According to Variety, Paramount Pictures is hoping to pair Scorsese and Robert De Niro for "I Hear You Paint Houses."

The studio has already set Steve Zaillian to adapt Charles Brandt's book, which focuses on legendary mob assassin Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran. Sheeran told Brandt in his 2004 book that he'd killed Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa, along with more than 25 other murders.

Scorsese is attached to direct, with De Niro playing Sheeran. In addition, Scorsese would produce through his Sikelia Prods. banner along with De Niro and Jane Rosenthal's Tribeca shingle.

Teamings for De Niro and Scorsese include "Goodfellas," "Raging Bull," "Casino," "Cape Fear," "The King of Comedy" and "Mean Streets."

Scorsese finally won his best directing Oscar for his last narrative feature, "The Departed." He's in post-production on "Shutter Island," another thriller starring DiCaprio.

Currently starring in "Righteous Kill" and the upcoming "What Just Happened?," De Niro has already completed work on the ensemble "Everybody's Fine."
