Snoop Dogg Pleads Guilty to Weapons Charge
Rapper gets probation and community service
Snoop Dogg is ready to take some responsibilty. The "Hood of Horror" star, born Calvin Broadus, pleaded guilty to felony possession of a deadly weapon in an Orange County, Calif., court on Thursday, Sept. 20, reports People.
Last September, the rapper was arrested after trying to board a plane with a 20-inch collapsible baton in a computer bag. At the time, he pleaded not guilty since the baton was a movie prop.
But "this was an expedient way to end the case," says Snoop's attorney, Donald Etra. "Snoop wants to make music, not make court appearances. Community service beats state prison any day."
The rapper was sentenced to three years' probation a and 160 hours of community service but cannot serve those hours in any capacity "involving children, gangs or football" since he already is involved with his sons' sports league. He will also donate $10,000 to Orange County's anti-gang program, Right Trak.
In April, the 35-year-old Snoop pleaded no contest to gun possession by a felon and sale or transportation of marijuana in order to avoid prison. Instead, he was sentenced to five years of probation.
The rapper has also appeared in a number of films, including "Half Baked," "Baby Boy," "Bones," "Starsky & Hutch," "Soul Plane," "Racing Stripes," "Hood of Horror" and "Training Day," for which he won an MTV movie award for best cameo.
