Golden Globes Will Honor Steven Spielberg
Rumer Willis will be Miss Golden Globe
The three-time Oscar winner, six-time Golden Globe winner, three-time DGA winner and multiple Emmy winner will receive the Hollywood Foreign Press' Cecil B. DeMille award at this January's Golden Globe ceremony.
The award is in recognition of his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field," making it the Globe equivalent of the lifetime achievement award. The DGA has already lifetime achievement-ized Spielberg, while he received a cumulative Irving Thalberg Award at the Oscars back when the Academy was fearing he might never win the big prize.
Spielberg actually only has two directing Golden Globes -- corresponding with his Oscar wins for "Schindler's List" and "Saving Private Ryan" -- but he also has Globes as producer on those two best picture Globe winners plus "Letters From Iwo Jima" and "E.T."
Recent DeMille winners have included Warren Beatty, Anthony Hopkins, Robin Williams and Michael Douglas, so Spielberg was probably due.
In addition to the Spielberg prize, the Globes also announced on Wednesday (Nov. 14) that this year's Miss Golden Globe -- the title for the young woman who hands the trophies to the presenters -- will be 19-year-old Rumer Willis, daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. The honor goes to the daughter of a celebrity.
The 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place Sunday, January 13, 2008 at The Beverly Hilton with a telecast on NBC.
