Josh Brolin would play George Bush Jr.

No stranger to chronicling world leaders, both dynamic and troubled, Oliver Stone is set to direct Josh Brolin in a biopic of George W. Bush.

According to the industry trade papers, Stone is currently trying to dig up financing for the project, fittingly titled "Bush." A script has already been written by Stanley Weiser, who co-wrote "Wall Street" and penned the telefilm "Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story."

Stone hopes to have the film ready for a spring production start and a fall release, when it could open in the middle of a national election.

The multiple Oscar winner was supposed to be directing "Pinkville," about the My Lai massacre, this spring, but production was halted as the writers strike began due to script concerns. Stone, of course, chronicled the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the presidency of Richard Nixon and the military campaigns of Alexander the Great. Stone's last film, "World Trade Center," focused on the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, the defining day of Bush's presidency.

Casting Brolin as our current Commander in Chief sets up a funny sort of Hollywood-political paradox. A president whose father followed Ronald Reagan into the presidency will be played by an actor whose own father played Ronald Reagan in a TV movie.

Whoa? Whoa.

Brolin is currently playing Dan White in another one-word political biopic, Gus Van Sant's "Milk." His breakout 2007 included roles in "Planet Terror," "In the Valley of Elah," "American Gangster" and, most memorably, "No Country for Old Men."
