Oscar winner in talks to join Sylvester Stallone action movie

Forest Whitaker may soon become expendable.

The actor, who won an Oscar for his role in 2007's "Last King of Scotland," is in negotiations to join the cast of "The Expendables," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Whitaker would play a CIA agent overseeing a group of mercenaries sent to overthrow a South American dictator. Sylvester Stallone wrote and directed, and will star as a soldier of fortune alongside Jet Li, Jason Statham and wrestler Randy Couture.

"The Expendables" is still in pre-production, with a tentative release date of 2010.

Whitaker, 47, can next be seen this October in a big-screen version of the classic Maurice Sendak book "Where the Wild Things Are."
