Stephen Sommers and Vadim Perelman are negotiating

High-profile studio remakes of "Poltergeist" and "Tarzan" are reportedly attracting the attentions of a pair of directors.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stephen Sommers is in negotiations to co-write and direct the Warner Bros. take on "Tarzan," while Vadim Perelman may take similar roles in MGM's "Poltergeist."

Warner Bros. had originally attached Guillermo Del Toro to its fresh adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic, but the "Hobbit" helmer is obviously busy.

Instead, Sommers will co-write the "Tarzan" script with Stuart Beattie, who also wrote the director's upcoming "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra." The trade paper says the duo doesn't plan to stick to Burroughs' novel.

This is familiar territory for Sommers, who also directed adaptations of "The Jungle Book" and "The Adventures of Huck Finn."

Perelman will work with recently hired "Poltergeist" scribes Juliet Snowden and Stiles White on a new version of Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg's haunting-in-suburbia classic.

The "House of San and Fog" and "The Life Before Her Eyes" helmer's involvement was first reported by Bloody-Disgusting.com, a fact which the HR actually acknowledges.
