Cruise will team with Denzel Washington on thriller

Tom Cruise couldn't kill Hitler, but now he'll be taking on another evil conspiracy.

Cruise will join Denzel Washington for the David Cronenberg thriller "The Matarese Circle," according to Variety. The plot follows the two as rival secret agents who have to team up against a shadowy organization, the titular Matarese Circle. The story is an adaptation of a Robert Ludlum novel; if this film does well, Ludlum's sequel "The Matarese Countdown" is practically crying out for a re-team.

Cruise, 46, starred in 2008's "Valkyrie." Washington, 54, can be seen this year in "The Taking of Pelham 123."
