Alex Tse will adapt the anime for Warner Brothers

Warner Brothers has landed a screenwriter for the the studio's Leonardo DiCaprio-produced adaptation of the anime property "Ninja Scroll."

According to the industry trades, Alex Tse will adapt the classic Japanese feature for DiCaprio's Appian Way shingle, along with Madhouse Pictures and Jungo Maruta.

Written and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, "Ninja Scroll" premiered in Japan in 1993 and debuted in Western markets three years later. Set in feudal Japan, the film focuses on a ninja hired to fight eight evil warriors in order to save the country.

DiCaprio is only expected to produce "Ninja Scroll," rather than starring. The Appian Way shingle is also developing an adaptation of "Akira."

Tse co-wrote Zack Snyder's upcoming take on "Watchmen." He's also working to adapt Ray Bradbury's "The Illustrated Man" for Warner Brothers, plus "The Winter of Frankie Machine" for Paramount.
