ThinkFilm Buys Duchovny's 'TV Set'
Gruffudd, Weaver, Bateman co-star
ThinkFilm has acquired domestic distribution to Jake Kasdan's TV satire "The TV Set," which features an all-star cast led by David Duchovny. The film follows one pilot season in the life of an idealistic scribe (Duchovny), as he pitches his pilot, casts it, shoots it and basically compromises his integrity every step of the way through to upfronts season. Yup, it's the kind of inside Hollywood dark comedy that Middle America loves.
The cast includes Sigourney Weaver as the vicious network executive, Justine Bateman as the writer's pregnant wife, Judy Greer as his long-suffering manager and Ioan Gruffudd as a creative executive brought over from England.
"If it wasn't so funny, 'The TV Set' would be very scary for what it has to say about the way we live now," says ThinkFilm Theatrical Head Mark Urman. "How clever of Jake Kasdan to expose how hard it is to create something good in today's dumbed-down America, and then to have created something so good himself."
The company will release "The TV Set" in the spring of 2007. The comedy has already played at the Tribeca Film Festival and in a special screening at the Los Angeles Film Festival.
"This movie was a labor of love, for all of us who made it." Kasdan says. "That's why we're so excited to be working with ThinkFilm. From my first conversation with Mark, it was clear to me that the movie had found its right home."
Previous credits for Kasdan include "The Zero Effect" and "Orange County."
