'New Moon' Will Rise Nov. 20
'Twilight' sequel now has director and release date
The second film based on Stephanie Meyer's teen-vampire series will hit theaters Nov. 20, 2009, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Yesterday, Chris Weitz was named director after "Twilight" helmer Catherine Hardwicke parted ways with the project.
Summit must be hoping lightning can strike twice: This year, "Twilight" opened Nov. 21 and pulled in almost $70 million over the weekend.
That film began the love story between teen Bella ( Kristen Stewart) and secret vampire Edward ( Robert Pattinson). What could make that better? Werewolves, of course, one of whom will rival Edward for Bella's mortal attention in "New Moon".
As of Dec. 14, the first film has made $150 million.
