Remake will draw from previous horror/sci-fi versions

Universal is going back to "The Thing" they do.

Variety says Ron Moore, co-creator and writer of the updated "Battlestar Galactica," has been tapped to remake Universal's 1951 "The Thing from Another World," during which a malevolent alien life form infiltrates a human research station.

John Carpenter's 1982 version, simply called "The Thing," twisted the story into a classic parable of Cold War paranoia, with the shapeshifting alien impersonating and killing the station's residents. The film still holds up today, though Moore's excellent "Galactica" update makes him a good choice to re-imagine the previous movies.
