Oscar winner becomes King Pong for 'Balls of Fury'

Who doesn't think "Wacky Ping Pong Comedy" when Oscar winner Christopher Walken's name comes up? Exactly.

The "Deer Hunter" star will take a co-starring role in "Balls of Fury," a high concept ping pong comedy from Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant ("Reno 911"). Variety is reporting that production on "Balls" will begin in June with Garant at the helm.

The Rogue Films release will star Dan Fogler (the Broadway musical "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee") as a disgraced ping pong champ recruited by the CIA to compete in a tournament held by crime lord and ping pong afficianado Fang (Walken). The trade paper say co-writer Lennon will have a supporting role as an East German ping pong champ.

Walken, known jointly for his intense character performances and his dancing abilities, is no stranger to comedy, of course. He's tickled funny bones in films ranging from "Joe Dirt" to "Kangaroo Jack" to "Gigli." His upcoming credits include "Click" with Adam Sandler and "Man of the Year" with Robin Williams.
