Screenwriters hired to work on DC property

DC Comics has had a difficult time bringing the Flash and Wonder Woman to the big screen, but perhaps the secret is teaming those characters up with Superman, Batman and the rest of the Justice League.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. has enlisted writers Kiernan and Michele Mulroney to take a stab at DC's popular and star-studded Justice League of America franchise, the first major step toward bringing the property to the big screen.

The trade paper has no idea how the Mulroneys plan to tackle the Justice League, much less which characters will be involved. In addition to the aforementioned characters, the original Justice League also included Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter, but at various times, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Captain Marvel, Plastic Man and oodles of other DC favorites have also been involved.

Warner Bros has had difficulties combining DC properties in the past. A "Batman vs. Superman" film was in extended development before the franchises went their separate ways amidst script and cost concerns. Thanks to directors Christopher Nolan and Bryan Singer, both franchises are in solid shape, with sequels coming out in 2008 and 2009.

A Justice League movie could probably work around A-listers Batman and Superman depending on the plot.

Joss Whedon and David Goyer, long attached to "Wonder Woman" and "Flash" films, recently announced separately that they're no longer attached, leaving both films in limbo.

The Justice League first premiered in 1960 and has produced a variety of animated offerings including the Cartoon Network's current "Justice League Unlimited."

Credits for the Mulroneys include a "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" rewrite and "On the Nature of Human Romantic Interaction," "Paper Man" and "Worst Case."
