Mary Elizabeth Winstead is reportedly in talks to join Michael Cera in Universal's comic action romance "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World."

Edgar Wright ("Hot Fuzz") co-wrote and will direct the Universal production, which comes from Bryan Lee O'Malley's series of acclaimed graphic novels.

Published by Oni Press, "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life" introduced readers to Scott Pilgrim (Cera), a directionless 23-year-old Canadian slacker, plus his gay best friend and roommate, his sister, the members of his band and his 17-year-old girlfriend Knives Chau. In the first book, Scott meets Ramona Flowers (Winstead), an American delivery girl with an interesting romantic past. In order to fully win Ramona's heart, Scott has to fight her seven evil exes, who have a variety of fighting skills and, occasionally, super-powers.

The fourth book in the series, "Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together," was published last year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script by Wright and Michael Bacall is based on O'Malley's first book, though earlier reports have suggested that more than one title would be combined to flesh out the narrative.

Credits for Winstead include "Sky High," "Live Free or Die Hard" and "Deathproof."
