Alex Winter set to draft 'Rock 'n' Roll High School' remake

Remember that remake of "Rock 'n' Roll High School" that Howard Stern's been threatening to make for years? It may be moving forward with a familiar name attached as screenwriter.

According to Variety, Alex Winter -- that's Bill S. Preston, Esquire, to you -- will write the remake of the 1979 film, set to be produced by Stern and Larry Levinson.

In the original feature, directed by Allan Arkush, the Ramones join in to help a group of rock-lovin' students crush their school's new ultra-square principal.

Howard Stern Productions acquired the remake rights to both "High School" and "Porky's" back in 2002. The trade paper notes that the long-gestating "Porky's" film could actually begin production by this fall.

While still best known for his roles in "The Lost Boys" and the two "Bill & Ted" films, Winter has been working steadily as a writer-director in recent years. He was most recently behind the camera on "Ben 10: Race Against Time" for Cartoon Network.
