SAG Awards Go 'Wild'
Indie film leads movie nominees; 'Sopranos,' '30 Rock' top TV
The Sean Penn-directed drama is the leading nominee for the 14th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, capturing nods for star Emile Hirsch, supporting actors Hal Holbrook and Catherine Keener and its ensemble.
"Michael Clayton" and "No Country for Old Men" each earned three nominations, as did "The Sopranos," "30 Rock" and "Ugly Betty" in the television categories.
The SAG Awards will likely serve as a final valedictory for "The Sopranos," which ended in June and won for best drama series at the 2007 Emmys. It earned nominations for stars Edie Falco and James Gandolfini and for its ensemble.
The nominees, announced Thursday morning, included a number of first-timers. Among the film nominees, Hirsch, "Juno" star Ellen Page and "American Gangster's" Ruby Dee all collected their first nods, while TV newcomers include Christina Applegate ("Samantha Who?"), Ricky Gervais ("Extras"), Tina Fey ("30 Rock") and Jon Hamm ("Mad Men").
